Do you only guide
on the Suwannee River? No. Depending on the season and
weather, I am willing to travel to almost any body of accessible water that
is within reasonable traveling distance of Suwannee County.
What types of
fish do you guide for? If it swims- we can try to catch it.
The Suwannee River and its tributaries are home to a number of species of
freshwater (and sometimes saltwater) fish.
Why should I
fish the Suwannee River? The Suwannee River not only offers
excellent fishing, but the scenic beauty of the river is unparallel to any
other natural river in Florida. There are plentiful numbers of panfish that
inhabit the waters of the Suwannee along with catfish, mullet and the occasional
speckled perch. But the most alluring of all the species that inhabit the
river is the Suwannee (redeye) bass. There are only a few bodies of water
in the entire nation that the Suwannee bass can be found.
What is a Suwannee
Bass? The Suwannee bass is often compared to a cross between a Smallmouth and
Spotted bass.
To say the least it is mean! A two
pound Suwannee bass is compared to a ten pound largemouth! The world record
Suwannee Bass weighed 4.13 pounds, but there have been numerous reports of
folks that have caught Suwannee’s larger than the current record, yet
the record weight was unbeknownst to them and I would have to assume that
these fish were either released or made into table fare.
When is the best
time to book a trip? The fishing in the Suwannee can be
good year round, but of course weather and water levels play a key role in
how the fish are reacting. Spring and summer months are my recommendation
for the simple fact of being able to enjoy the weather and wildlife. The
Suwannee River is home to a number of freshwater springs that are very refreshing places to cool off during summertime fishing trips and the wildlife
activity along the banks of the Suwannee is usually in its prime during the
springtime months.
What
type of boat will I be fishing from? You will be fishing from
the deck of the finest bass boat on the water. I runa brand new Ranger
Z19 equipped with a Yamaha VMAX 225 HPDI
Do you provide
any equipment? I recommend that my clients bring their own equipment if it is feasible
for the simple fact of comfort. It has been my
experience that a person can operate equipment they are comfortable with
a lot better than a rod and reel that they have never used and people can
enjoy their day on the water a lot more if their time is spent catching fish
and not untangling backlashes. However, if you don’t have any equipment
or simply would like to use the equipment that I have to offer I will be
more than happy to accommodate you based on your proficiency with either
a spincast, baitcasting or spinning reel at no extra charge.
